I have started 3 businesses – Memrise is the 3rd and the first in education. I also have a background in finance, having worked for three years as lead equities analyst on the $500m Guinness Atkinson China & Hong Kong Fund.
We have built Memrise to nearly a million members in 3 years. My main contributions were:
Set up up the community to crowd-course mnemonics. Oversaw the creation of more than a million mnemonics – by far the largest collection of mnemonics in existence.
Developed and marketed a new method of learning Chinese, designed and built a range of Chinese courses, now some the most widely used Chinese-learning programs in the world.
Grew communities to build open source learner’s dictionaries in over 200 language pairs.
Special areas of interest: crowd sourcing, social media marketing, community strategy and community building, using technology to fundamentally change the experience of learning new things.
